The Rutland Area Prevention Coalition has been serving Rutland County for more than 11 years and consists of two full time staff and four part time staff. Staff attend conferences and trainings on a regular basis and Advisory Council Meetings are held regularly. RAP distributes two newsletters, Tobacco News which is a bi-monthly publication, and Reaching Youth Today which is a quarterly publication. Other media activities include PSA’s, letters to the editor, article placement, and more. Our organization facilitates tobacco and substance abuse education activities including but not limited to: health fairs, school presentations, community events, parent education, community meetings, focus forums, and more. We also distribute tobacco and substance abuse related materials throughout the community and offer resource loans to interested schools and organizations. As part of our commitment to youth, RAP is currently implementing the Second Step Curriculum in Rutland City Head Start Classrooms and is overseeing the direction of the Rutland County Youth Council. In addition, RAP sponsors TEPCO, which is the Tobacco Education and Prevention Coalition. TEPCO works to implement environmental change regarding tobacco use within Rutland County. The Education and Wellness Center provides resources such as videos, books, tapes, brochures, and more regarding substance abuse prevention, stress management, and more.
