Guiding Good Choices The Guiding Good Choices program was developed by J. David Hawkins, Ph.D., and Richard F. Catalano, Ph.D., professors of social work and directors of the Social Development Research Group at the University of Washington. The program is a research-based substance abuse prevention program that teaches parents of preteens and younger adolescents (ages 9-14) the skills they need to improve family communication and family bonding. Guiding Good Choices has been shown to reduce alcohol and marijuana use by up to 40.6%, reduce progression to more serious substance abuse by 54%, and increase the likelihood that nonusers will remain drug-free by 26%. Workshops will begin soon, so check back to learn when the first series of workshops are scheduled to begin. For more information, please feel free to contact the Guiding Good Choices facilitator, Tina Coltey by phone at 802-775-4199 or by email. |
